EU Lowers Safe Exposure Level for TFA ‘Forever Chemical’

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has revised its safety guidelines regarding the chemical trihalomethane (TFA), commonly referred to as a ‘forever chemical’ due to its persistence in the environment. The EFSA’s new assessment has significantly reduced the acceptable daily intake (ADI) of TFA, reflecting growing concerns about its potential health risks. The updated ADI is now set at 0.5 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day, a reduction from the previous level of 3 micrograms.
